In Africa, it is a common practice for women to accept payment from their male counterparts for transportation costs, then purposefully fail to appear and spend the money on their own needs.
“A person is guilty of defrauding by false pretenses if, by means of any false pretense, or by personation, he gets the assent of another person to part with or transfer the ownership of anything,” according to Ghana’s Criminal Code Act 29 Section 132.
A woman has been ordered by a court in Enugu, Nigeria, to pay a man N150K, which is equal to Ghc 3,908, for purposefully failing to appear.

The person who tweeted the story claims that the woman accepted N3K, or Gh¢ 78, from the man to cover the cost of her transportation to see him, but she never showed up.
Later, the guy filed a deceitful lawsuit against her and won. The lady was required to pay the man a hefty N150K by the judge who heard the case.
