Black Star Line Festival was populated with over 52,000 audiences – Record indicates

Chance The Rapper and Vic Mensa launched the inaugural edition of their Black Star Line festival in Accra, Ghana over the weekend with an all-star concert featuring sets from Erykah Badu, Dave Chappelle, T-Pain, Jeremih, Sarkodie, Tobe Nwigwe, Asakaa Boys and M.anifest.

In accordance with a press release, the celebration on Friday night drew 52,000 people to historic Black Star Square, the memorial to Ghanaians who became the first Sub-Saharan African nation to achieve colonial independence in 1957.

Chance stated in a statement that “The Black Star Line Festival is more than simply a celebration of Black culture and music; it’s a chance for the Diaspora to unite as a community and remember the power that resides within us.”

“It’s an opportunity to honour the legacy of those who came before us and to inspire and uplift each other. It’s a historic event and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Black Star Line Festival.”

The festival’s title was inspired by civil rights leader Marcus Garvey’s Black Star Line, which was founded in 1919 and operated by Black people who helped link global shipping and tourism opportunities between America, the Caribbean and Africa.

In addition to the crowded performance where the bands played on a stage with a huge black star front and center, the weekend’s events featured chats with Mensa and Chance, skate sessions, and other art and cultural gatherings around the city.

Additionally, Garvey served as the inspiration for Chance’s next album Star Line Gallery and the song “YAH Know,” which features King Promise.
