The World’s Dirtiest Man passed away after taking his first wash in more than 50 years.

The Iranian hermit who was known as the “world’s dirtiest man” for going more than 50 years without taking a shower has reportedly died at the ripe old age of 94, according to official media.

According to the Irna news agency, the elderly man popularly known as “Amou Haji” passed away on Sunday in the village of Dejgah in the southern province of Fars.

Haji, who was covered in soot and lived in a cinder-block shack, was allegedly said to have gone more than 60 years without taking a bath with water or soap. 

The villagers claimed that he refused to wash due of “emotional difficulties in his boyhood.”

With 2014, The Tehran Times reported that Haji would eat roadkill, smoke a pipe covered in animal excrement, and believed that cleanliness would make him sick. He was seen smoking many cigarettes while being caught on camera.

Irna claimed that the locals had finally persuaded him to wash a few months earlier.

After Haji’s passing, the unofficial record might be given to an Indian guy who has lived most of his life without taking a bath.
