Power Book III: Raising Kanan’:Patina Miller says that Raq has a lot of different sides.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan is about Kanan Stark’s teenage years (Mekai Curtis). But the 1990s-set show is just as much about Kanan as it is about his mother, Raquel “Raq” Thomas (Patina Miller). Raq has become the biggest drug dealer in Queens because he is smart and cruel.

But Miller says that her interesting character has many different sides.
In “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” Raq is the most cruel person.

In the first episode of Raising Kanan, we found out that Raq got involved with drugs when she started dating a guy named High Post. She took over her brother Marvin’s (London Brown) drug business when he went to jail after High Post died. Now, she still runs it with Marvin and Lou Lou, their younger brother (Malcolm Mays).

Fans now think that she set up Marvin to go to prison because she is so cruel. Will that really happen? Only time will tell.
Patina Miller says that Raq has a lot of different sides.

Even though Raq is mean, we’ve seen her be kind to Kanan and Jukebox (Hailey Kilgore). When dealing with Symphony, she also has a soft side (Tobey Sandeman). Miller says that her character has more than three layers.

She told Vanity Fair, “I know what it’s like to be in charge and have men question you at every turn and always have to prove yourself.” “I loved how Raq got to play so many different roles in the same script. Not just the strong woman, because that would be easy. Black women find it easy to play the strong role.

But I love that you got to see her vulnerable side with her son, her sexy and flirtatious side with Symphony, her Mama Bear side when she goes to meet Unique, and then just the matriarch when the family is all together and that love.”
In “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” Raq and Kanan’s relationship could be broken for good.

Even though Raq and Kanan used to be close, their relationship might never be the same. In the first season of Raising Kanan, the teen was determined to show his mother how good he was. But by doing that, she showed just how cruel she can be. Kanan was shocked to find out that his mother had asked for his best friend D-Wiz to be killed. This news made him see her in a whole new way.

Now that Kanan has been away from Queens for a year, he has probably had more time to think about what Raq did. She might even be losing his respect and trust. Kanan tells his mother in the teaser trailer for Season 2 that he’s not sure he’s cut out for the drug game.

The official logline says, “As season two begins, Raquel “Raq” Thomas has taken control of the city’s drug trade, but her son is getting farther away.” “When Kanan Stark goes back to Queens, he doesn’t know what will happen with the family business, and Detective Howard’s secret makes him even less sure about his past.”
