Last month’s Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show was the first time hip-hop took center stage, but it wasn’t an easy trip.

JAY-Z, whose firm Roc Nation co-produced the performance, fought an uphill struggle in convincing Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar to perform at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., according to Snoop Dogg.

Death Row Records’ new CEO spoke with TIDAL about his bond with JAY-Z and how the Roc Nation CEO threatened to stop the NFL’s contract unless Dre was allowed to perform.

“We’re in love with each other.” “We love each other, not secretly, but publicly,” Snoop remarked.

“It is what it is, so for him to go to bat for us and tell the NFL, ‘F**k that,’ is incredible.” “The most gangster sh*t out of anything was ‘They perform or I quit.'”

Snoop’s onstage attire was also a source of concern for the NFL, but JAY-Z reassured him.

“Then you can’t wear your gangbang crap because of the attire and kneeling and all that?” ‘Wear whatever the f**k you want,’ JAY-Z said to me.

‘Peace to the Gods,’ says the narrator.

Snoop and Hov celebrated the momentous occasion after the concert.

“So he came down and hugged me as soon as he walked in.” We give each other a big hug. It felt like we had won a championship. You know how you can tell when you’re truly happy for one other? People don’t get it; it’s just me and him. On the East, he’s the one.

“I’m the one from the West,” says the narrator.
