Highlights from the 24th VGMA

It’s now official that the 24th Edition of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) is done and dusted with Black Sherif emerging as the overall winner. 

The awards came off at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Center yesterday and ended around 2:30am this morning.

This article sort to highlight some of the important moment that happened during the event and this follows in no particular order.

Black Sherif aka Blacko declared as the Artiste of the Year

The important highlight of the whole show was when ‘Kweku The Traveller’ hitmaker Black Sherif was declared as the Artiste of the Year.

Prior to the awards night, the conversation out there was Gospel musician Piesie Esther was a strong contender for the ultimate award with all the people from the Gospel fraternity throwing their weight behind her but the fans of Black Sherif proved that they indeed voted for him to emerge as the winner.

Stonebwoy wins his 7th Reggae and Dancehall Artiste of the Year

Bhim Nation President Stonebwoy made history yesterday after winning the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year at the awards night.

This brings his total win for that category to a total number of Seven(7).

The Ashaiman-born artiste won in the category in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. He was ineligible for nomination following his fight with Shatta Wale on the VGMA stage which lead to his ban.

At the 23rd Edition he was again crowned as the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the year again.

As it stands now he is the highest record holder in that category.
