Rocky Dawuni hints on why he’s recognized globally

Rocky Dawuni, an afro-roots musician from Ghana, has spoken on the reasons behind the popularity of his music around the world.

The three-time Grammy nominee singer asserted that he does not mimic the fashion choices of others.

The seasoned performer claimed that his style is unusual and distinctive. He claimed to be developing his own sound, which is an amalgam of highlife and Afrobeats (Afro-roots).

In an interview, he stated that in order for any artist to be recognized on a global scale, they must be able to develop distinctive own styles; else, they will never succeed.

The “Neva Bow Down,” he remarked, was an example of how you shouldn’t mimic or duplicate other musicians when performing music.

He clarified, “My style is known as afro root music; it is not strictly reggae music. I combine Highlife, Afrobeat, and other styles to create it.

Therefore, if you are performing music, you are not required to imitate or replicate anyone else.

You won’t succeed if you act like that.
So what I’m saying is that you can’t borrow someone else’s style and make it your own, he continued.

Naturally, you can’t do it as well as the creator of the style, so you must develop your own, which is what will let people know that you have something special to offer as well.

The result is a confluence of all these elements when you listen to me critically, the Grammy nominee explained.
