My uncle inspired me to do music – Vic Mensa discloses

Victor Kwesi Mensah known by his stage name as Vic Mensa says his uncle Abrekyireba Kofi Sammy of the Okukuseku International Band inspired his music career.

“My uncle is the reason why I have music. He gave me the music. My uncle is the legendary Chief Kofi Samuel of Okukuseku International Band,” he told JoyNews’ Becky on the sidelines of the Black Star Line Festival.

He added that it was a privilege for him to honor his uncle while he is still alive.

“It’s a full circle moment for me to be able to honor him, respect him and give him his flowers in the sunset of his life.”

Vic Mensa presented his uncle to the audience at the Black Star Line Festival halfway through his set.

Rapper and vocalist, Vic Mensa is of American descent. He was a part of the ‘Kids These Days’ group, which disbanded in May 2013.

He then released Innanetape, his first solo mixtape. He is presently on Roc Nation’s contract.
